Surgery

When you find out your pet needs surgery - regardless of whether it's for something routine or a more complex procedure - it's not uncommon to experience feelings of uneasiness, anxiety and even fear. After all, you love your companion, and you want to be sure that they will remain safe and will be in capable hands at all times while not in your care. The team at Stockbridge Animal Hospital understands the feelings of uncertainty you're experiencing - each one of us has been in your shoes. That's why we work hard to make each and every surgery performed at our hospital as stress-free an experience as possible.

We offer a broad range of pet surgeries, from routine spays and neuters to emergency laceration repair, all performed by our highly skilled veterinarians using the most modern techniques and adhering to the highest standards of care. We never want to place our patients at unnecessary risk, so we take extra precautions at every turn, including the use of the safest anesthetic products and state of the art monitoring equipment. When it comes to surgery, the safety and comfort of our patients is always our top priority!

Before we ever even step foot in our surgical suite, your pet will receive a thorough and comprehensive health analysis to ensure that he or she is well enough to proceed. This is especially important if your pet is older or suffers from an existing medical condition. Once we've determined it's safe to continue, we'll then get to work developing a customized pain management plan that is tailored to your pet and designed to keep them as comfortable as possible while also minimizing risk.

As we prepare for surgery, our highly skilled technicians will begin administering pain medication to sedate your pet, a process which is handled with precision and great care. Once successfully under, our veterinarian will get to work performing surgery in the most efficient and effective manner possible. Our care team will be on hand throughout the process to assist with surgery and to carefully monitor your pet's heart rate, oxygen level and blood pressure to ensure their wellbeing at all times.

When the operation is complete, we'll gently relocate your pet to our warm, quiet recovery area, where we will continue to monitor them as they begin to come out of anesthesia. When we feel it's safe to return your companion to your care, we'll contact you to arrange for pickup. Before you bring your pet home, we'll carefully go over all of our post-surgical care instructions, including an appropriate pain management plan, if necessary, to help your pet recover as comfortably as possible at home.

If your pet needs surgery or recently underwent a procedure, and you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call us. We want to set your mind at ease. Whatever your pet's surgical needs, you can trust the team at Stockbridge Animal Hospital!
